[0:00] As we spend more time digitally the importance of digital fashion is going to Continue to increase to the extent that I think digital fashion sales will surpass physical retail sales in our lifetime Hello, hello I'm gonna stop my mics from echoing cuz I'm on two phones today. Hello everybody. Welcome to the second ever Farfetch Twitter Spaces. Very excited to be here today. My name is David Cash Very excited to be co-hosting this conversation with Kaya from Farfetch. Very happy to see you here Kaya. Lovely to be sharing the stage with you Thank you. Hi everyone. Thanks David.
[0:48] GM GM We have a number of amazing guests today very excited about today's conversation The topic of the day is DAOs and more specifically DAOs leading the conversation and we do have two of those here today We have represented representatives from both Red DAO and Unicorn DAO as well as Outlier Ventures and Farfetch So very excited for today's conversation I would love to take a moment just before we kick this off Just to allow each of our panelists to take a moment and introduce themselves say hi and share the relationships With their DAOs that each each of these respective incredible people are a member of but before we do that I would love to pass the mic over to Kaya as a rep from Farfetch Kaya if you have anything you want to share introduce yourself and some of the lovely things that you're doing at Farfetch Cool, thanks David.
[1:36] Yeah. Hi everyone and thanks for dialing in. We're very excited about this Twitter space and having great speakers with us So I'm Kaya work on the Web3 team at Farfetch Developing our Web3 strategy and partnerships for the future So lovely to have you all on this call Fabulous, so happy to have you here today First first in terms of people I see before me a good friend of mine. Very happy you could join us here today We have Nadya from Unicorn would love to to bring you up And if you would like to introduce yourself to anybody who happens to be living under a rock would love to pass it over to you Hi David Good to be here with you. Um, well, I imagine and I'm a co-founder Oops, I was just muted for a second.
[2:38] I think we got rubbed. I'm sorry. Please go ahead So we started Unicorn about a year ago Because we thought that NFT space deserves better. It deserves more women identified people and all sorts of beautiful queer people We went to a bunch of crypto parties. We didn't see Diversity and I just happened to really love diversity It might be my kink and believe this real culture cannot happen in a space that lacks diversity real culture is Coming from all of us not just from one type of people Even if those people might be kids sometimes and really lovely so we started Unicorn DAO and Our goal is to support women artists and LGBTQ plus people and we do it by collecting their art and Besides collecting art we also do fundraisers for important important causes Like a couple of people from Unicorn Helps to put together UkraineDAO earlier this year.
[3:58] We raised seven million dollars for Ukraine in the first couple of days of the war and We're able to distribute those money really quickly as well because of because because of crypto and later This year in the summer. We raised a half of million dollars for reproductive rights Had our legal abortion do at ease Unicorn DAO's initiative that Basically helped us to provide money to those who need them the most People who were stripped down of their basic right of doing whatever fuck they want with their body And the broader context. I'm a founder of Pussy Riot. You may heard of us We spent two years in jail, but we've been fighting for the last 15 plus years against the most dangerous dictator in the world arguably, Vladimir Putin Beautiful beautiful.
[5:08] I'm just making sure you're finished. I didn't want to cut you off So so love what you do Nadya. You're such an inspiration and always love sharing a stage with you It's it's a pleasure. The pleasure is all mine. I would love to pass the mic to a member I'm not mistaken of both DAOs if I again if I'm not mistaken But I'd love to pass the mic to the next incredible woman. I see up on stage Dani Loftus This Outfit Does Not Exist Dani would you like to introduce yourself to the folks who are listening and share a little bit of what you do for these? I'd love to and David. Thank you so much for having me So I am indeed a member of both Red DAO and Unicorn I'm very very fortunate in that respect and I joined Red as one of the founding members Actually at the exact point of our inception.
[5:55] I was the last person let in and My journey in digital fashion was I think an unconventional one. I think a lot of us in Web3 have had and quite unconventional roots to enter and so I Was originally in blockchain based fintech. I was very very excited about the social impact space when I was growing up The flip side was I've always loved art and fashion, but you know until two years ago I always thought that that would be something that was a true passion of mine and that was integrated into my career let's say when I was 40 or 50 and during the pandemic I I became fixated on digital clothing and its potential impact and It was 2020 and I started looking into the space and I saw digital fashion as just this obvious future for the creator economy But at the time there was almost absolutely nothing out there So, you know when I started researching the space DRESSX was a month or so old The Dematerialised, Tribute all
[6:59] of the OG companies were just starting and I noticed that nobody was actually wearing digital fashion and nobody was also really writing about it. And so I Begun by writing to all of these magazines and newspapers being like this is the future of your industry Let me write for you and they basically got back to me and said we don't get it We don't understand why this is significant. We don't understand why this is important and so I took matters into my own hands and I started This Outfit Does Not Exist which was a platform for me to write write these 5 ,000 word essays on digital fashion that's impact and Also to showcase what the clothes would look like worn and what started as a side hustle then led me into Red then led me into founding my own platform, which is being in the process of being built called DRAUP and also into Unicorn and you know, I've like so many of us, you know looked up to Nadya
[7:56] and followed her work for a really long time and In a wider way, you know entering the crypto space and you know previously being in a lot of these financial or male-dominated spaces in earlier in my career I Always saw this under record under Representation and also this lack of financial opportunities as a result of that if you are in these spaces like technology like finance where people are getting the highest salaries and It's male-dominated and the education is not there and you know You're limited to creative practices and creative practices where you're not being fairly compensated for your work that's not the world that I want to see as we move into the metaverse and so I Was so excited to join Unicorn as a creator as a curator because Why also Web3 technologies and technology in general has so much potential to revolutionize the world It's completely contingent on the way that it's used And
[8:55] if we just integrate biases and the prejudice ways of being that we have had in our society for so many years The metaverse is just gonna perpetuate negativity and so Unicorn for me is really a way of changing that So I'm so excited to be a part of it Dani you're such a beautiful speaker. I love every single thing that you just said very very happy to have you as a part of this conversation and Yeah, wonderful words there and Unicorn and Red are both very lucky to have you and yeah, this is this is fabulous This is fabulous. Very excited about today's conversation. I would love to pass it over to who I'm assuming is John It might be Chanel But whoever is currently behind the the Unicorn account I would love to pass it over to you and share maybe just a little bit more about Unicorn all the amazing things that you do Hey David Chanel, if you can recognize my voice.
[9:45] Thank you so much for having us this morning Always a pleasure to be in this space with you I'm Chanel. I'm the head of curation at Unicorn DAO founded by Pussy Riot aka Nadya and a group of feminist members We aim to continue to build a collective of artists musicians technologists and creatives alike in support of diverse disciplines in the crypto art space and basically, what we're doing is redistributing wealth and visibility for our LGBTQ plus and female creative communities and I really love to shape environments through art and technology aiming to Essentially bridge the gap between contemporary traditional arts and blockchain blockchain technology driven by radical decentralization through Many different arms of activism art and physical happenings Recently you came to my last project I was also one of the creative directors behind the first immersive physical meets digital avant-garde performative
[10:41] international Exhibition on chain called NFT Art Berlin and that was that Kraftwerk Which we celebrated a lineup of many of the artists that were curating at Unicorn DAO Defying the way in which digital and physical art is placed in spaces Beautiful beautiful Chanel. You are also of course one of my favorite voices in the space I love the way that you speak about art and culture and you are a creator of culture, which is something that's very important To Farfetch, you know bringing together the curators and the creators of culture is something that I'm very aligned In terms of what Farfetch believes and and yeah, very very excited to have you here and really appreciate your time I'd love to pass it over to another Red DAO member who we have up on stage Marc, Marc Weinstein or work Weinstein depending on which social media you're looking at Marc I'd love to if you want to share a little bit more about yourself and how
[11:35] you got into working at that We're being a part of that. Yeah. Thank you, David. First of all, I just want to say Thank you for having me and I feel Honored to be on this basis with all these incredible people. I honestly feel very under qualified to be here It's just well super blown away by the things that these Incredible women have been building. Um, I Am a member of Red DAO I've been interested in investing in kind of I guess it's called the convergent stack or the metaverse just Have a belief fundamentally that as we spend more time digitally the importance of digital fashion is going to Continue to increase to the extent that I think digital fashion sales will surpass physical retail sales in our lifetime And so doing Red DAO with that thesis in mind have personally I'm also a partner at a fund in the crypto space that I started two years ago called Mechanism Capital We've invested a bunch into
[12:40] NFT infrastructure the metaverse and Web3 gaming And as an angel investor, I've been investing in a bunch of different projects as well. I think the first project I invested in Shout out to Ryan Mullins It's called on life. They built a game called Aglet which was the first example that I ever saw of basically digital and physical twin Sneakers for sneakerheads. They built like a Pokémon Go for sneakerheads And so my job is basically chatting with and supporting Incredible founders who have much more vision and drive than I do myself and I try my best Well, it's it's been quite an impressive job so far so I Really appreciate everything you and and Red DAO do and really appreciate your POV on the ecosystem as well You know, we're all still very early But I know that you know We're representing a team here of folks who've been building in the space for quite some time So definitely appreciate
[13:39] you and your vision. I would love to pass it over to to another DAO expert you could say Somebody who's been researching and working with DAOs for some time through one of our partners or one of the partners of Farfetch Outlier Ventures Evan. I'd love to pass it over to you if you'd like to introduce yourself and what got you into the world of DAOs Yeah, sure. Thanks a lot David. And yeah, I could in the last week Qualified amazing other amazing guests but yeah, I've been in DAOs and cryptos for quite a bit of time now and working at Outlier Ventures for over a year Where I helped advise the team on how they can set up it does meaning like their structure and their community in the government and that sort of stuff I got into the space in about like 2017 when I was in university and started a FinTech club and then since then just been doing Web3 and blockchain crypto But yeah, I find DAOs very exciting for
[14:41] really there's a chance to make everything more equitable for the community and also create new governance Like mechanisms and that sort of stuff is very interesting Yeah Awesome awesome appreciate your insights and excited to have you as part of this conversation And also worth mentioning we will be joined shortly I believe she's joining us about 10 minutes by Charli Cohen as well who's also a part of Unicorn DAO I'm so very excited to be having her here as well I would love to take a moment now and start posing some questions to our amazing panelists We have such incredible speakers here today as you have already heard And yeah, I definitely have some questions and very excited for today's conversation One thing I would like to say before we really kick this off for all of our panelists We really want to encourage discourse as part of these conversations We really want to push the conversation forwards
[15:40] and see what can be made of this So if anybody says anything that sparks something of interest for you, if you have an idea, please feel free to jump in You know this this is a structured conversation, but not that structured We would love to hear your ideas as they come to you So please feel free to chime in if something comes to mind with that being said I would love to start considering fashion, you know, is really one of the vehicles of culture, you know, there's arts there's fashion There's food there's experiences, but we really do believe that fashion is one of the Core principles of culture and I'm curious from everybody's perspective here and we can go down the line Perhaps starting with Nadya if you if you're able to speak or if not, I would love to pass this over to Chanel Would love to hear how you feel that Web3 and by extension DAOs can make an impact on on fashion and the way that
[16:26] we we consume and Work with the clothes that we wear Nadya if you're with us, we'd love to pass it over to you if not, Chanel Well clothes is a really important thing simply because because people judge you by the way you look if you like it or not and You get to choose if you are consciously gonna decide your self-presentation to the world or you will just Pass it on to someone else because it you rarely walk naked on the street. I do sometimes but if I So I was studying among nerds. I was studying philosophy And as you can imagine people who study philosophy, they rarely Pay attention the way they look and we had quite a lot of conversations about it with them Because I was just like wait wait, you're basically defined right now by You know H &M or Zara or wherever you you pick your clothes or you know a local market so it's not your conscious choice, but Somebody else does it anyway, so I was a huge
[17:43] ambassador for Picking over picking clothes with meaning and I Think the best example of Me personally wearing the shirt really nicely was during my trial. I was wearing a shirt called No Pasarán in While I was detained in handcuffs listening to my prison sentence of a sentence to two years in jail No Pasarán is a anti-fascist slogan from from Spain from Spain in the 30s it means They shall not pass or they will not come through I mean, I don't know Spanish, but I read in Wikipedia that that's what it means a little bulb and then later celebrating 10 years anniversary of Of my sentence.
[18:44] Yeah, right celebrating We've released we made a drop with DRESSX on on Polygon via Lens We made a drop where everyone could claim For free their t-shirt with some digital fashion. So we didn't have to produce anything physically and it's it makes It makes all this all possible sense to me because we want to change our clothes really Often don't always want to produce things because it's not necessarily Good for environment or for people who work in sweatshops. I did work in sweatshop and so for two years while I was in jail, it's not fun, so I Totally endorse digital fashion just because it helps us to create looks and be in a little bit more conscious to towards people who produce it nauseam environmentally conscious and And also it's available for for everyone for a smaller price which also is interesting to me Beautiful beautiful insight.
[19:53] I think that so many lovely things you touched on there that fashion can be a protest You know just inherently, you know in terms of what you what you wear within a certain context I remember coming to I was invited to speak at a libertarian conference and I Am more in social democrat side, you know, so for me to come to a libertarian conference was a Was an interesting choice But I came and Bernie Sanders t-shirt. He was running at a time was 2016 and Actually quite an impact. So at a fashion nicely worn t-shirt can definitely be a huge statement. I Love that.
[20:40] I love that and it's a great way to consider this and also I love what you touch on in terms of your collaboration with DRESSX And I think that's a perfect example of how Web3 can you know utilize and improve? Maybe something within the fashion context that you can take a piece of virtual fashion Especially when we're considering one-time use garments I mean as you're mentioning, you know something for a specific occasion I mean even something that says nominal as a Halloween cost even if you're only gonna wear once Being able to replace that with a virtual garment. I think is really powerful And with that being said I'd actually love to pass this question Onto Dani as well because I know you're somebody who probably consumes more virtual fashion than maybe anybody Do you have any thoughts that came up when Nadya was speaking or just on the general topic of how how fashion and Web3 can You
[21:23] know really how how we can you know really push things forwards in terms of fashion and Web3 especially as some of these powerful DAOs that have formed I Think what Nadya said that really resonated with me was about fashion and its relationship to identity and its relationship to perception I think long gone are the days that you consume something from a physiological need you have so much choice That you don't need to go to a store and be like I need to get warm right now. Let me choose This one single puffer coat and therefore everything we do and the entire way that we view this the fashion space We're not just buying clothes. We are buying into the business of identity and I think as you move into the digital space this idea of identity coming above everything else when you wear what you wear is tantamount to the most important thing and When I look into those digital spaces, I think you buy the fashion
[22:21] that you buy for self-expression For affiliation. So how does this relate me to other groups and then status? So where in that group? Hierarchically, do I place myself by wearing the things that I wear and I think what's very fascinating is the technologies we now have in Web3 such as you know, generative technology, which allows a Lot of outputs around a single let's call it a brand. So for example, if you are somebody who likes the Bored Apes you have a Bored Ape which represents your Association with 10 ,000 other people but the traits that that ape has places you within and within a hierarchy and I think we're going to see this increasing significance of Digital fashion that is both unique to the buyer but associates you with a wider brand as We delve deeper into the space and actually at DRAUP that specifically what we're going to be working on as we launch our brand which I think is
[23:21] very exciting and I think in terms of DAOs in particular Red DAO's mandate is really to further the digital fashion ecosystem and we do this in three ways Firstly we buy The work of digital fashion creators Secondly, we make venture style investments into companies, you know, for example Charli Cohen's RSTLSS or Tribute Brand with founders that we really support and want to see sculpt this future and Finally, we actually do a lot of stuff educationally to further people's understanding of why the space is significant and we're going to see this incredible I Think acceleration of context. So, you know the way that you decide what you wear You don't decide what you wear in a bubble, you know exactly as Nadya said the way you're perceived on the street You know the way you might be perceived on the street In New York is different from the way you might be perceived in the street in Russia And all
[24:22] of a sudden we have these virtual worlds and I think responding to what context is within them is going to really shape The digital fashion of the future and where DAOs play a part. I think is not only in furthering these efforts but also They can be used in very interesting ways to make these efforts to create clothes responsive So in the physical fashion industry, you have this colossal problem where you're not being demand responsive You're not saying okay. I'm gonna go out and determine product market fit and see if anybody wants my clothes You're saying I am going to create a collection and I'm going to use advertising to make you want it And as a result, you know, you get colossal overproduction and you have high fashion houses, which are saying by me Because I will allow you to project a certain image Instead we have this incredible bottom-up culture, which is much more akin to the way the streetwear has
[25:16] worked over the years in Digital fashion where it's a community of people demonstrating their wants and Making collective decisions and also hopefully, you know with the DAO, with Web3 infrastructure being collectively rewarded for those decisions Around the clothes that are produced and I think that's a real game-changer For the way that fashion is gonna look, you know Two three four five years from now Absolutely beautifully said beautifully said and I think also one thing that you touched on that I really appreciate Is when we consider the consumers wants beyond what brands are creating and I think that's a really powerful idea Because when we look in virtual spaces in metaverse spaces, the clothes that we find ourselves wearing are often far more You know call it what you may extreme extravagant, you know Expressive than what somebody might wear in in the real world.
[26:12] And I think that also is partially due to the limitations set As you're saying brands kind of pre prescribing what people want. I think that's a very Totally and I think kind of maybe the final point David to bring up that is the way that we dresses You know influenced by our physical environment, but it's also dressed That's also, you know strongly influenced by our body if I don't like the way that I look or things can fit me Well, fit me badly basically and then all of a sudden you have a digital space where you're not curating yourself You're creating yourself from nothing And so I think that's going to bring an entirely new class of people who are never comfortable with engaging with fashion before Into this new genre of engagement as we come into, you know, the metaverse and surrounding worlds Absolutely aligned and really really well said I would be curious to hear what Chanel thinks on this topic because
[27:07] Chanel You know, you're you're somebody who I think exists within several different contexts. I know you as somebody who loves fashion I know you as a champion of artists and you're somebody who really helps operate You know DAOs and really creates this infrastructure for folks So curious how how you feel about Web3 and DAO specifically and how how we can influence Fashion the way we consume it. I Think Nadya and Dani and you said it so well So, you know ditto to everything that has been said but especially with Unicorn and Red and Tribute Labs We're really a catalyst for social and political change within the communities that we can directly You know amplify and so building the culture within arts fashion the traditional art world the crypto art space is just a continuous Way that we can really chip away at this block from scratch because crypto is able to be its own completely superfluous
[28:05] medium that is not defined by the values and the structure of the Previous way that we used to operate and so I really think that You know, it's more of an organic approach of really having such an amazing community of creatives and people that we meet alike in the space To really all gather and find ways and synergies within, you know Not only just Farfetch but the people that come into our life and want to directly support Unicorn Beautifully said beautifully said passing it right along to Marc Marc You're obviously somebody who loves pushing the fashion space forwards, especially the fashion space within Web3 How have you found, you know similar question, but how have you found being part of these DAOs being a catalyst of what you're trying To do in the space curious to hear your perspective Yeah, I think that I mean echoing what everybody else already said on this specific point.
[28:56] I think that you know DAOs are just Similar to other kind of cultural subgroups Except you know in the instance of investment DAOs like Red, you know, they're actually Putting capital to work in addition to social capital financial capital to support Trends that they want to see emerge in the market. So it's kind of like a simultaneous impact, but I think that ultimately like the the social signaling of Of a DAO supporting a specific fashion item if the members of that DAO are considered to be on the cutting edge Um, which you know some are in Red DAO I don't know that that I necessarily am but you know They are going to be pushing movements forward in the same way that you know celebrities Um do in kind of the traditional fashion world so I think that what we've seen is like an emergent class of of DAO members and participants and Web3, you know specific quote unquote influencers Um who take actions and
[29:58] then those actions, you know are followed Um, one interesting You know just example of this I think is if you look at Art Basel in Miami, I think It was clear to see kind of someone wearing a 9dcc shirt um Was you know a supporter of of gmoney and and what he's building at the convergence of you know physical and digital and NFT and fashion and It immediately made a statement as to kind of what what type of community you're a part of And you could pick someone out of the out of a crowd of people that were you know Maybe not even at a Web3 your NFT event just based on the outfit that they were wearing. So Absolutely. Absolutely It's a you know, a clear indicator of community Which I think can be something really exciting when you start to look at it within the context of uh, you know These decentralized organizations these organizations that exist, um without physical boundaries It's you know,
[30:53] it's an identifier. It's a way to um, you know come together over a over a shared Identity physical identity. So I think that's really interesting Um last person I'd love to share this too And I would love to to pass the mic over to Charli in a moment I think she passed down as a listener We'll bring her back up as a as a speaker and make sure she can share some of her thoughts with everybody here But I'd love to pass it over to Evan as well Um Evan, I know from from the OV perspective and from maybe more corporate perspective Um, I know you guys are very much deep Web3 natives I know you work with a number of different types of DAOs You know decentralized organizations, but also LAOs leaderless and autonomous organizations and other forms of uh structures I'm, so curious from your perspective, you know, maybe somebody with more of a structural insight Um curious how you feel um that these organizations can
[31:38] specifically cater to the needs Of fashion and consumers of fashion as we move forwards Yeah, definitely. Um, I'm definitely not a fashion expert, but Uh, I think you can kind of use a lot of the same things that does currently do in the same kind of context So if there was like a a fashion-esque DAO um You could have it as a way for trying to find out what kind of like items that the People are interested in doing through governance so someone could propose a new line of clothing and then have it having the um The people in that DAO vote on if they like it or not and if it should go into production would be a very easy Easy example of what can be done? Um, but it also can be a good way to scout out new talent and new fashion designers and that sort of thing. Um, because they're able to more easily have their Designs and voices heard then they went in a traditional organization.
[32:32] So instead of having to go through um many different layers of management or higher ups in order to get your lines or clothing Uh sent out or seen by the right people you can have it fairly easily seen by everyone in your community through Um submitting like governance proposals to have or not governance proposals, I guess but like through submitting proposals That are voted on through governance Um, but yeah, it's it's kind of like a fairly easy example of what what fashion could be doing in DAOs. Um, Outside of that, you know, there's there's there's a couple other things but uh Yeah, I don't know if you have any questions about that No, I like what you just mentioned. I think the the d to v the direct to vote Often for people to get their their work in front of uh decision makers is really powerful just that in and of itself especially in an industry maybe so regulated as fashion where you
[33:22] have These gatekeepers and key decision makers that you know, really kind of hold the keys. I think that you know This can really open things up to um co-creation and community. Um, if you have any other thoughts on that on that matter But uh, yeah great idea yeah, yeah, and also I guess it would also have the um The IP stuff because you can see that the a person a particular person has sent something in And obviously that proposal more likely would go on chain. So that That design is kept and proven that it can be like authenticated to be from that person's ideas or from that particular DAO So if another company or person were to steal it, then they could kind of easily point out No, this is my idea. I came it out came out with the first blah blah blah Um, and then from the co-creation kind of perspective there's lots of different like DAO tooling I guess that people could use To to pick out which which things
[34:12] that they do like and uh how they can kind of work with the other people to do it Absolutely, absolutely and you know, some of these concepts are still very cutting edge and bleeding bleeding edge cutting edge Whatever you want to call it. Um, because they're being kind of created as as we speak So I think one of the purposes of these types of conversations It's also for us to flesh out these ideas so we can see what the future of these organizations Can be and what we can do with these groups. So great great point, Evan I would love to pass the mic over over to Charli. I know Charli just joined us I know you missed the beginning of the conversation. So I'll rewind it for a second for you Would would love to hear from you for the folks who may be living under a rock and haven't come across you and your work before If you could just give us a little bit of an introduction Um to you and some of the beautiful work
[34:56] you've done and then let us know a little bit about your relationship with Unicorn And how you've worked together Yes, of course Um, so my background is in fashion. Um, I've been in physical digital crossover fashion for about 10 years Um, and that has in the last couple of years become socially acceptable to talk about which has been amazing um and aside from Charli Cohen brand in the process of launching a platform that democratizes creation for designers and artists in the space to be able to Um easily create interoperable wearables. Um, so that's uh, very much a passion divine and uh, I think sort of going to the um sort of speaking to The DAO side I've come from Like many of us from like traditional creative industry traditional fashion industry.
[35:49] Um, which is extremely cliquey exclusive um, you have to have Been lucky enough to be like born with a high level of privilege to even be able to access the right networks within these industries to be able to Um, you know grow a successful career um, and if we are serious about Using Web3 to create a a new standard for fashion industry Creative industry there needs to be you know, real um infrastructure in place to manage that um and DAOs are um, really the The tool we have right now to be able to do that to be able to provide more access to opportunity to be able to open up um access funding exposure to a new generation of artists and designers that have been Overlooked by the traditional industries because they weren't born in the right city They weren't able to go to the right school.
[36:54] They don't have a trust fund to be able to like sample a collection Or put up an exhibition um, and uh, yeah being able to participate in Unicorn And have any level of impact on creating a a more fair industry where you know these unseen talents finally get the Exposure and reward they deserve. Um, that's extremely exciting Absolutely. Um, and just a touch on the fact, you know You you've obviously been in this digital space for quite some time before People will be even talking about NFTs or the metaverse or any of these terms Um, I would love to hear from your perspective because Dani brought it up briefly But you've also you know, RSTLSS has also been supported In terms of funding by by Red DAO and by DAO organizations, which I think is also fabulous Do you have any insights or thoughts on you know, how these organizations can also, you know support, you know independent designers such as yourself and in terms
[37:49] of you know Pushing your vision and I guess making it actually independent and not kind of required, you know I guess based upon some company and their their perspective I suppose Yes, I think it's you know It's very important for any company that's building in the Web3 space to have a you know a Web3 Mentality on their cap table. Um, so when we were raising for RSTLSS we did, you know, we did bring in Uh traditional venture capital as well, but really tried to balance it with the support of Red DAO Um by bringing in individuals from the space who really understand That you know what we're building in Web3 doesn't work in the same way as traditional tech or traditional creative industry We're trying to set new standards so Like absolutely essential I think for anyone building in the space to have backers who really Understand the the ethos and intent of what we're building So yeah, like super super fortunate
[38:51] to have Red DAO supporting us fabulous fabulous and uh, and yeah, you know Red DAO and Unicorn both of you have obviously been such pillars in the space in terms of supporting Creators and the creator economy and you know, one of these pillars that we've all brought up so much I think is is co-creation and how you know, even in terms of a support and and brand perspective You know, um, these are the these are the interactions that really allow this ecosystem to exist Um, I would love to go back to to maybe the structural DAO conversation If we can and also how it pertains to to luxury in fashion I think luxury is a very interesting word in this context context when we're considering Um how we can make an impact and also make something Applicable to a very finite group of people and something that we brought up multiple times in these conversations Across platforms is how there is a lot of alignment
[39:43] between What we would consider, you know Web3 consumers and uh, you know high-end fashion consumers I think there actually is a lot of overlap in terms of wants needs desires Um, and then there also is the element, you know The topic of today's conversation is DAOs leading the conversation. I think both Unicorn and Red have made major marks on industries And and also in terms of impact in ways, you know as Nadya mentioned Um before that you can you know, we can raise significant amounts of money We can make real social change and I think there's a lot to consider here Um, but when we consider these these two communities and how they work together the luxury fashion community and the Web3 community I'm curious to hear from the various panelists that we have up on stage how you how you feel these interactions or you feel these These worlds overlap. Um Kaya I'd actually love to pass it to you if you
[40:25] have any thoughts, um before we pass it through our other panelists Yeah, absolutely. I think um, what what the other speakers have said is Incredibly to the point and and I just want to add to this that It's true like Web3 in the future of fashion and the adoption of luxury fashion traditionally luxury has really only been accessible to For creators but also consumers to people that have the means and that can afford to either create or consume again and buy Whereas today with Web3 and blockchain technology if you're an early adopter or a part of certain communities luxury really becomes more accessible and I I think Web3 really facilitates access and allows brands to You know back to back to down in your points reach new audiences Web3 also really unlocks new frontiers for the world of fashion today fashion is no longer just limited to physical items Fashion labels, uh, whether big or small labels have
[41:26] the opportunity to really expand their reach and expand their offering And no longer just has to be physical items as we know it in Web2 There's now an appetite for digital fashion, but also phygitals that can be both used in real life and um online I think a couple other points is you know blockchain technology today really unlocks an opportunity for brands Web2 brands To build a new dimension and another dimension in the way they sell and also engage with customers Um, if you think about it, it's like creating new ways of experiencing shopping new ways of interacting with the brands New ways of buying new ways of owning new ways of curating as well And all of this done through co-creation through co-ownership But also I stress on the co-curation And I think allowing users to be a part of the process is really key for big fashion brands And then just the last point here is you know fashion doesn't really
[42:24] Have to stay the way we know it today And Web3 really has the power of extending the realms of fashion and really integrating it into our digital identities, too Um, you know being able to dress your avatar or whatever, you know You you use on online and your and in your digital identity in a way that also so, you know, I agree with you Dani on the being able to not necessarily have to You know mirror what you look in real life and like in Web3, but also having the option and the Possibility to dress your avatar in a way that also represents you in real life in real life setting skins in virtual games But also, you know unlocking access to special jobs access to special collections um and really co-creating the future of fashion with Builders of Web2, but also of Web3 and really like bridging that gap Absolutely. Absolutely.
[43:21] There's so many good points you touched on there I feel like you know really important elements that you know are are tying together both of these worlds You know the the co-creation absolutely but the unlocking of intangible access to things. I think is really exciting as a notion And actually this is something Chanel I know I know we've spoken about before you know the idea of creating something for one person versus creating something For an audience of people. Um, I think that you know when we're looking at these these types of Issues in a broader context, you know, even something like luxury fashion Um, or you know the way that we interact with Web3 collectors um I think it's actually really interesting when you consider the the context of creating for one person versus a group of people and uh, Chanel, I know you've you've curated work for in small contexts and massive contexts And I would love to pass
[44:05] it over to you if you have any thoughts in terms of um, the way that these two groups intersect Uh, I completely agree with you. David. I think that you know being able to Merge physical and digital and the communities that we are directly impacting and curating live in real time through Web3 Is truly a privilege and we need to use that privilege to the highest ability of how we can directly disrupt uh, you know most industries that only allow access to certain demographics of financial and Diverse backgrounds and so at its core Unicorn DAO and you know, Red DAO Tribute Labs All of us all of us in the space are really Working very hard to make sure that the way that we're currently operating in the world is truly something that we can talk about in 10 to 20 years and know that it was changed for the best reasons and I think that fashion to be honest, uh needs to be extremely conscious of this and
[45:07] You know businesses that enter the Web3 space Should keep in mind that they're doing something extremely different and building from the ground up with scratch From scratch and need to trust communities like us who started basically, you know in the form of alchemy from from something that was a blockchain technology to expanding it into a community of culture of art of activism And everything alike and so I find it extremely fascinating that we all continue to Really amplify everything that we believe in to the tee a thousand times more than what can currently Be, uh, you know I would say displayed in real live time Absolutely.
[45:59] Absolutely and Dani I'm curious from your perspective Um in terms of this shift that Chanel mentioned, uh from you know The traditional fashion industry to this to this kind of quasi in-between world we live in today with this with this transitionary phase You know underway, um, how do you feel about how these two worlds intersect in terms of luxury fashion? and Web3 and is your perspective hopeful being somebody who Kind of interacts a ton within the the digital space of the fashion industry I think I'm really couldn't be more hopeful I think what Marc said about the fact that within our lifetime digital clothing production will surpass physical clothing production slash consumption I Really believe in and it's sure I'm so excited about And I think in a very similar way to what Charli said One of the first things I was excited about was economic opportunity born via access so The fact that we used to
[46:51] live in a world or the trad fashion industry stole to a degree lives in a world where You have to be in London, Paris, Milan, New york to be able to showcase your clothes You have to have an incredible ability to make an upfront investment to produce your first collection and One of the first things that was exciting about digital fashion was the fact that you could bypass these gates these gatekeepers that you could be anywhere in the world and for little more than the cost of a computer And design software and learning tutorials You could start getting your work out there and you know getting them worn by people like me And so I think for a long time with the internet we've seen this Social democratization. So, you know, even if you can't afford Balenciaga or Bottega, etc You can say that you don't resonate with their campaign if that's inappropriate And so fashion houses, I think for a while have
[47:42] started catering more and more to the masses and That means diverse populations It means that you know You're not just saying is this a sexy dress because the person who has the income to buy it Is a man and he's going to buy it for his wife. So is that appealing aka very Victoria's Secret instead? It's Actually, we have a diverse group of people consuming our brand consuming our content Even if they don't consume our clothes So we need to be conscious of that and then in Web3 and in digital fashion more generally These people are actually now becoming the consumers of the clothing So I think that Is a very interesting shift that brands need to be aware of As well as the fact that with those new models People are looking for increased democracy And increased authenticity.
[48:33] So it's not good enough To operate in the traditionally hierarchical way where Thousands of people may have contributed to the creation of the clothing But the only the only people who really are fairly compensated at the tenth top If you're going to be Web3 you have to really be Web3 in all your values and I think that's still a shift that A lot of luxury brands have to go through and you know, it's a massive diversion from their business model So I get it, but I think we're seeing a lot of exploration there And I think second of all in the sustainability imperative, you know I love I think is kind of Charli and Chanel and a lot of people who I was with last week No, I like physical clothes a lot. I really like them I don't think we're ever going to move towards a world nor would I want us to move towards a world Where we were operating, you know on a green school, you know on a green screen
[49:23] with a bodysuit looking at it through AR spectacles But what I do think is the way that the fashion industry has worked forever is by Stimulating and simulating demand for us to change our identities And you know, I have a ton of stuff that I have literally impulse bought that looks horrible on me Because I thought it was cool that it was a trend And now with digital fashion, you can experiment with how that looks on your online persona Maybe you want to try it on maybe on a flex on social media, but you can really think about Whether or not you need it in the physical and I would hope you'll also be able to redirect your purchases Towards more sustainable clothing and brands in turn can use these as ways to see actually if there's demand for that collection And produce more efficiently.
[50:11] So I think there's a really exciting transition into the physical luxury space in that way as well Such beautiful such beautiful statements and I think from from what you just said, hopefully people see that it's beyond hopeful Um, you know in terms of what's next? And I was going to pass it over to Charli But Marc I see you unmuting and I would love to keep the conversation flowing if you have any thoughts from what Dani said I'm awesome. We'll pass That was all good. We got the Clubhouse clap coming back. I love it. I love it I would love to pass this over to Charli Because you know Dani you described so beautifully Um, you know how brands can can move into this future and how we can you know Not just intersect between Web3 and luxury fashion But how we can use Web3 to push luxury fashion forwards in terms of even principles, um of decentralization and democratization Um Charli being somebody who's
[51:02] building RSTLSS building a Web3 native fashion brand. That's also phygital Um would love to hear from your perspective on how you know, these two worlds intertwine and um, how from your perspective You know, maybe one informs the other Yeah, so I think um You know right now we're within Open metaverse so like outside of traditional gaming industry There is limited utility for wearables because we're just not Existing in a an avatar based social environment yet at like the Web3 community certainly We're hopefully not that far off, but we're still a little way off that so the real utility even if You know we're buying something at an NFT outside of having it as a collectible is being able to wear a physical garment Because if we're not wearing a skin in game We're not wearing a skin in the open metaverse That's where we're able to enjoy the actual utility of fashion which is the ability to place
[52:02] it on your body um, so Physical I think is extremely important right now for the Web3 native uh collector It's also really important for onboarding Because we you know, we have to meet people where they are Um, and when it comes to fashion and wearables, that's either in the gaming industry or when it comes to luxury fashion It's it's in the physical world so Web3 can learn a lot from traditional fashion, um in how a you know the physical side of A brand is built um, I think sort of the reverse what um traditional fashion needs to Learn from Web3 is more of this streetwear ethos Where it is about co-creation.
[52:56] It's about having not just An audience who you're dictating to but an engaged community who are actually participating in the brand with you Um, which is you know, it's how Web3 community works. Um, so you either do that as a traditional fashion brand by potentially changing and mending your strategy or having some kind of sub brand or A different channel where you you know, you specifically go down this very collaborative route Or you collaborate with a Web3 native IP or artist or brand who? Is you know engaging in this very, uh Web3 mentality of community building? Um, you stick to your guns, I guess and you know in a similar way to the uh, the Tiffany collaboration with CryptoPunks they kind of stuck to their guns like this is what Tiffany does like we're not about building community.
[53:50] We're about making like high-end jewelry Um, but they tapped into a community that's very much about community Um, and they were able to to bridge it that way um, so like one way or another um for You know Web3 we need to look to the traditional fashion industry in terms of what does it actually mean to? Participate in wearing fashion if we can't do that We don't have enough opportunity to do that in open metaverse right now. Um, and then yeah from the other side It's how do we authentically? Um collaborate with community rather than just sell to them Beautifully beautifully said um and totally aligned. I actually wrote down even whatever things you said because I think I tweeted afterwards Oh, it's an honor I'll I'll ping you after that to make sure it's okay But uh, but really really beautifully said and I think that again this interaction between um, both worlds learning from each other I think
[54:48] is really productive, you know as we try to co-create this future Let's not you know vilify one versus the other Let's figure out what are the positives of both and what are the negatives of both and then let's move forwards productively Um with that in mind you're a beautiful example of that happening in real time So, uh, you know if anybody who's listening now or after the fact isn't following along Um the Charli Cohen journey. I highly recommend you hop on board and see what she's uh, what she's up to And I mean as a I I have to stan Charli because I know she wouldn't do it herself There are some very very exciting RSTLSS updates today Um, if Charli wants to, you know, maybe allude to them, but I would go to the RSTLSS Twitter. It's very very exciting I absolutely want I I actually want to give you the stage to give you uh To give you a moment to share these if you if you don't mind But
[55:34] just before we do Chanel just ping me that she has to hop to another call Um, if anybody else has to do the same, uh, please feel free, you know, it's it's a it's a free flowing conversation But we're very happy to have had you. Um, but I just wanted to quickly pass it over to Chanel Chanel if you wanted to just um, give us a A quick plug of where we can find Unicorn now and all the beautiful work that you do For anybody who uh, who's interested? Yeah, of course I just want to say thank you so much Farfetch and David of Cash Labs It's always such a pleasure that you all are thinking about our communities and our DAO is essential driving force to Make sure that everyone has a voice in the space And we're very excited to see what you're up to in the you know Oncoming months, uh, you can find us here on Twitter where the account is at Unicorn DAO underscore xxx at Unicorn DAO on Instagram, uh,

Lastly, I just wanted to say that Also, uh, shout out to Farfetch and thank you for making us private client members at Art Basel I walked through the showroom experience with cloe and it was really fascinating to see that you had an entire installation and essentially based on AI image capturing and StyleGAN training looking at your outfit and really teeing up What the future of your wardrobe and how to implement your style within art and technology and fashion is and so Um,
[57:20] you know just very appreciative that you made that happen for so many of us and also artists within our Unicorn network Beautifully beautifully said and thank you so much for joining us today Chanel and to all of our guests Um conscious that we're at the end of our time So again, if anybody has to hop, um, please feel free But would love to pass it over to Dani Um, and then perhaps Evan just to quickly share a similar plug Um for Red DAO and OV if you wanted to share um, some of what red's up to I know you're all super elusive But uh Dani if you'd love to share where people can find more about Red if they happen to be interested So being super elusive as a fashion DAO is very very central to our image. Um, but First of all, we have an amazing newsletter Um switch actually we just did a new edition which you can find on our Twitter So I'd say the main way, you know, we're we're a digitally native
[58:09] Fashion DAO so follow us on Twitter at Red underscore underscore underscore DAO And I would also subscribe to our Mirror page If you look at um, you know the Scarlet Letter beyond phygital, we've just done our second edition, um And yeah And we also have an Instagram under Red DAO as well And so I think things that you can expect to see from us in the coming months more educational efforts in the space also I'm actually going to be running a commission series Can't tell you with who yet but some very very exciting hyper-talented creators in the space and starting Working with them for them to build our custom work for us So not only building a collection of existing pieces, but also our own custom collection, which I think is a really exciting way to support the artists Whilst also being cohesive with you know our brand and who we are.
[59:05] So those are some of the things that we have coming up Beautiful beautiful and uh, you know, please please keep me posted on the education efforts. We'd love to support in any way shape or form really excited to see you doing that and love love love the work that Red DAO does, uh Second, uh the Scarlet Letter and all the content that red's been putting out if anybody hasn't checked it out Do go to their Twitter. I believe it's in Dani's bio and you can delve in deeper into their world Again, just before we close things out would love to pass things over to Evan and then Charli And then finally Kaya before we close things out Evan Would you like to tell us a little bit about um, just before we close some of the work you're doing at OV? Maybe specifically around DAOs or just in general obviously OV's been such a pillar of the space But for anybody from the fashion side who may not be familiar.
[59:48] Do you want to give the quick plug? Yeah, definitely. Sorry. I just knocked out my contacts. I'm putting that into my eye. But um, I Yeah at OV we are currently uh Recruiting for Uh for Base Camp right now. We're a Web3 accelerator. So we continuously look for Early stage like pre-seed to seed stage companies They're interested in accelerating their their company to the next level essentially Um right now we have a couple cool DAO tools in our portfolio like to Do shout out to common brands, which is a kind of Discord alternative. Um, They have a very fashionable website So I think you guys would like to style and enjoy it It's a lot easier to use and has a lot of data functionality built into it off the bat So it's definitely something I would recommend people checking out Um, and then we have a couple other companies that are going through the The program right now like Societal and uh Lomads which are building DAO frameworks.
[1:00:46] Um, they're both very exciting companies and are working on very cool things and their founders are very great people as well Um, but yeah Like if you're interested in anything about OV or want to look into applying for whatever ever Base Camps You can feel free to shoot me a message or just go directly to the OV Twitter, which is OVioHQ I think Um, but yeah, I think that's everything and thanks a lot for David for having me on and everyone else all the guest speakers You're all great. Very insightful conversation. Really enjoyed being here Amazing. Amazing. I appreciate you joining us here today And yeah, Outlier Ventures has been, you know backing, uh, the leaders of Web3 since I believe 2013 So you guys have been around for a while. Uh, love Jamie and love the team and appreciate you joining us here today Um last but certainly not least I would love to uh, follow Danny's prompt and pass it over to Charli Uh,
[1:01:32] just being conscious that some people probably had to hop but Charli I would love to hear what's going on with RSTLSS right now and also for anybody Again, who might not be familiar if you want to give the uh, the RSTLSS plug and let people know where they can find all The beautiful work that you're doing right now Yeah, so, um after 18 months of uh of building we are launching our beta in a week's time Uh, literally the reason I was late for coming into Um the space is we just dropped our trailer Um, so that is over at RSTLSSxyz on Twitter. So R-S-T-L-S-S-X-Y-Z no vowels obviously because we're in Web3 Um, we're really trying to set the standard for Production quality quality of visuals. So really hope you enjoy the trailer. Um, we're very proud of it and uh, The team that we collaborated with on it Um worked tirelessly from ukraine whilst literally being shelled having power outsters every day And like somehow pulled
